Footage preview for a short doc that I am making on the Bucks Elbow plane crash that occurred on October 30th, 1959.
I am hoping to explore with the film the ritual of honoring the past and how that may connect to views on mortality.
Mark Cline organized a gathering to return the plane’s wheel that had been rolled off the mountain as a way to commemorate the 60th Anniversary.
The wheel weighed over 200Lb and in its state of disrepair proved to be quite the challenge to return to the remote crash site on the side of a mountain. A giant wheel was designed to carry the plane wheel over the rough terrain.
An extended hike with incredibly foggy and rainy conditions made this event an incredible challenge to film. I avoided shooting with my Sony A7s II and instead opted for the iPhone X with a Hohem gimbal. This setup proved quite effective in allowing me to be mobile while still affording high quality footage.
